چکیده

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a novel biomedical imaging technique which uses lowcoherence optical interferometry to obtain micron-scale resolution tomographic images of subsurface tissue structure noninvasively. We have developed OCT scanners compatible with minimally invasive delivery technologies (i.e., biomicroscopy, endoscopy) capable of imaging up to video rate. Clinical studies of OCT imaging in the eye, skin, and gastrointestinal tissues are under way which demonstrate reproducible image contrast between morphological tissue layers, as well as differentiation between normal and abnormal tissue regions. We have also demonstrated OCT applications for noninvasive 3D imaging in embryos and small animals. We report on dramatic recent technical advances in OCT which have significantly enhanced its capability for minimally invasive clinical diagnostics and for basic biological research. These include system designs which achieve a significant SNR advantage through parallel detection, as well as the first demonstrations of molecular imaging with OCT.

Unification of Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy of Dyes Using One Pot Synthesized Stabilized Ag Nanoparticles

stabilized Ag Nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized using Lee-Meisel method under three different conditions in an oil bath. UV-Vis spectroscopy of the Ag NPs showed a Localized Surface Plasmon (LSP) band around 430 nm, indicating Ag NPs had a size range around 40 nm. To fabricate a surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) substrate, LSP properties of Ag NPs was employed with the goal of detec...

Rapid and inexpensive fabrication of terahertz electromagnetic bandgap structures.

Modern rapid prototyping technologies are now capable of build resolutions that allow direct fabrication of photonic structures in the GHz and THz frequency regimes. To demonstrate this, we have fabricated several structures with 3D electromagnetic bandgaps in the 100-400 GHz range. Characterization of these structures via THz Time-domain Spectroscopy (THz-TDS) shows very good agreement with si...

Modern Optics and Spectroscopy

The research group at Columbia University investigated carrier dynamics in SWNTs in micellar solution. They found that nonradiative Auger recombination is an important mechanism of fluorescence quenching in SWNTs. At low pH, nanotube surface endoperoxides protonate and introduce holes that quench the luminescence. In order to characterize electronic structure of SWNTs at the single-tube level, ...

Spectroscopy, Structural, and Optical Investigations of NiFe2O4 Ferrite

Ni ferrite crystalline material is synthesized using a sol-gel method at two different temperatures. The vibrational and stretching modes, crystalline phase, size distribution and morphology of the products are investigated via Raman back-scattering and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, XRD and FESEM, respectively. Vibrational modes of spinel ferrite are observed at Raman and FTIR...
